CVSuite is pleased to announce the addition of race and ethnicity data to our existing age and gender demographic data. These new data make it easy to look at the race/ ethnic make-up of a region and allow you to dive even deeper and see these data for workers in creative industries and occupations. Three aspects of demographics are available across three different types of data. The types of data are:
1. Population data by region which will show you the overall number of people living in a region, the racial/ ethnic, age and gender make-up of the population.
2. Occupation data will show you how many people work in your region by your selected creative occupations, this includes data about the racial/ ethnic, age and gender make-up of each creative occupation.
3. Industry data will show you how many people work in your region by your selected creative industries, this includes data about the racial/ ethnic, age and gender make-up of each creative industry.
Here are a few of the questions you can answer with race and ethnicity data using the Phoenix MSA as an example:
Looking at inclusion in the creative economy, do the race/ ethnic make-up of Phoenix MSA’s creative occupations reflect that of the overall region?
The overall population of the Phoenix MSA is 4,489,111 and there are 1,355,203 Hispanic or Latino members of the community which is around 30% of the overall population. Phoenix MSA employs 131,672 people in the creative occupations*, of those 16,189 are Hispanic or Latino. Hispanic people comprise 30.2% of the general population, yet make up only 12.2% of the creative occupations in the Phoenix MSA. (See figure 1 below)
What are the top creative occupations for hispanic workers in the Phoenix MSA?
We see that a few of the top creative occupations are Merchandise displayers, Interpreters and Graphic Designers.(See figure 2 below)
The race/ ethnicity data can be used to help formulate programs and policy for people of color and to guide funding strategies. Please contact Susan at susan.gillespie@westaf.org to see the new demographic data first hand and tour CVSuite.
(Data are from CVSuite and Emsi. Creative Occupations are defined by select creative occupations by SOC code.)
