Recently, the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), in partnership with the National Creative Economy Coalition, ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Grantmakers in the Arts, and others held its first Creative Vitality™ Summit. The Summit brought together 40 creative economy experts, arts and culture leaders, and equity champions across the field to discuss the future of the creative sector—and we were so thrilled to be one of the many participating partners for this inaugural event!
WESTAF has a long history of conducting research on the economic impact of the arts and the creative economy, and the Creative Vitality™ Suite has become a distinctive tool for measuring the creative sector using a range of official statistics and a pioneering approach to comparing regional creative vitality utilizing the Creative Vitality™ Index (CVI™). Visit our help center to learn more about the CVI Index and how regional CVIs are calculated.
Knowing that the arts serve as a vital component for economic growth, the Summit aimed to curate deep conversations around the realities and potentials of the creative economy as an advocacy agenda, a policy area, and an economic development strategy. It also motivated participants to consider the ways that creative economy data can support evidence-based policymaking to catalyze positive change within the sector.
We are excited for next year’s 2022 Creative Vitality™ Summit and look forward to building new relationships, partnerships, and a powerful network of arts leaders across the field who are ready to hit the ground running in taking action to support the lives of creative workers.
