Select NEA Funded Grants in Each State #Morethanart
This is an update to our July post on grants funded by the National Endowment
for the Arts.
When someone hears about the recent debate around cutting funding to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), they may have an idea in mind about the types of projects the NEA funds. Therefore, we created the #morethanart campaign as a tool to help people inside and outside of the arts understand the breadth of projects the NEA funds. During the summer, we highlighted grants awarded by the NEA across all of our regional arts organizations:
- Arts Midwest
- Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation
- Mid-America Arts Alliance
- New England Foundation for the Arts
- South Arts
- WESTAF
Selecting Projects
We selected projects based on their potential return on investment, focusing on projects with a commercial or economic component. These projects are less about the distinct traditional creative industries (theater, fine arts, film, music, etc…). And more about projects that are interdisciplinary and focused on creative economy.
These types of projects focus on education, arts/ science/ technology, design, media, creative place-making and community planning. As such, these projects have a regional economic impact or can impact an artist’s ability to be self-supporting.
